once a project has been selected it's not possible to stop it's proceeding to load it.

it would be nice to be able to cancel or stop the project from loading

Yes you can. When loading a project, there's a cancel button in the lower left corner of the Revit screen.

Hi, @m.alalkam ,

@Simon_Weel  is correct, it is possible to cancel a project being opened. Does this solve your issue?

Sometimes you can't.  Sometimes Task Manager End Task is the only recourse.  Of course that's a "sucky" solution, but it is a solution nonetheless.  Next time you try to open 'that' file, you might want to open it with Audit checked.

Hi, thanks for your replies!

That did work, nevertheless I think it would be useful to improve this function.
Like showing it at the loading window + it can show from the moment you click the project.

And just like barthbradley says, it doesn't always work...

The cancel button, for me, is useless. During a 5 minute load time for a linked model it only shows up midway through the process and is unresponsive. This has been the same behaviour for the past few versions of Revit I have worked in, with no change. This also includes different PCs and across different versions of Windows.

What would be nice is for the cancel button to be integrated into the Open Model dialogue window and for the button to immediately abandon load action (if possible).

This is still a huge problem. If I have one project open, and load a second project in the same Revit instance, and that file gets stuck loading, I have to task manager the entire app, meaning the first project's data is lost. I am in this situation right now, with no obvious alternative - there is no cancel option at the bottom of the Revit window and it's been trying to download from BIM360 for 25 minutes now.

@NG-Bim in that case, I would make a Service Request. It won't help you now, but maybe in the future...

I think that this is only a little part of basic improvements that Autodesk should consider, to stay ''ahead'' of competition. There are plenty more that would make the life of a modeller easier.
