Stair surface pattern plan mismatched to 3D

Hi there -

A very unrevit-like problem with Revit - we have a material with a pattern on our stair treads.  however they don't match between 3D and Plan, a very unrevit way of doing something - Has anyone seen this? Found a way around this? 

The 3D hatch is able to be moved about like a normal model hatch, however the plan version doesn't seem to be editable.

Thoughts appreciated!

Yes I have seen it. I can't think of a Solution except for turn off the surface pattern of stairs for plan views, and replace it eith filled region if required.
