Stair Double Cut Line Graphics

Hi all. I am in Revit 2021 but I've seen this issue in all versions. I have a stair and want to show a double zigzag cut line. The stair is on Level 8 and there is a stair above and below. When I apply the double zigzag cut line I can see the stair below in between the two cut lines. This area should be blank. See image for further clarification. How can I have this be blank without hiding the stair below or adding a masking region?

Yes graphically that is what I am trying to accomplish. Do you have a stair below in that image? If so, can you share how you removed the bottom stair from in-between the cut lines?

Yes I did adjust the distance between the cut lines but regardless of the spacing the stair below still shows.

So you have stairs underneath?  Hide then in the view then.

...you could use a Plan Region as well.

NOTE: Floors, structural floors, stairs, and ramps located outside the view range use an adjusted range that is 4 feet (about 1.22 meters) below the bottom of the primary range. Within this adjusted range, the elements are drawn using the projection line weight for the category. If they exist outside this adjusted range but within the view depth, these elements are drawn using the <Beyond> line style.

Trying to avoid masking regions since they are view specific and can get messy if the stair moves or cut line moves. Hiding the stair is also view specific and hides the entire stair below which is not graphically correct.

Can you describe how a plan region would solve this? I've used them to adjust the location of the cut lines, I don't see how it would remove that portion of the bottom stair. I should also add that adjusting the view range does not solve the issue.

I never said anything about Masking Region. I said hide the below Stairs.  And as for Plan Regions, I posted a couple of links for you.  Is that not satisfactory?

...by "hide" I simply meant exclude them from the View.  Either by selecting and hiding them via Hide Element in View - or via a Plan Region.

Your first link led me to room calcs - I'm not sure how that is relevant? Let me know if I am missing something there...

A plan region is not a good fix because it does not remove that portion of the stair only. Also, if I have 100+ stairs that have this issue it would be very inefficient to create a plan region for each one. I appreciate the effort but I don't see either of those solving my issue.

Not sure I understand what you did. Attached is a file including my original stair, a new stair I created and converted to multi-story stair, and a copy of the original converted to multi-story stair. None of them are displaying correctly. Can you explain what you did to achieve the solution?

Also - when i take your file and stretch the level elevations to 15' (closer to what my building shows) the issue re-appears.

If I recreate the stair and make it a multistory stairs then the mask still works.

I see. Is there any way to achieve this goal without having to recreate the stair? That wouldn’t be a practical solution for most of our projects since we work with high rises and have multiple stairs throughout the buildings.

Hiding that stair linework is not an option for you?

...oh, I hadn't noticed that you posted an example file.  How about the Linework Tool?  Probably impractical as well.
