Split Toposolid consistently fails on any shapes with mild complexity...

Hi all,

 

When working with a toposolid created from an actual survey - trying to divide it up into workable site geometry ... I'm getting this message over and over again: 

 

Seeing this consistently...Seeing this consistently...

An export of the error log returns an identical message with no further info.

 

I've attached a copy of the topo with the proposed split line as a detail line to pick.

 

If anyone (Autodesk or otherwise) could help that would be great.

If the split tool fails, and you must separate the terrain in parts, consider copy-pasting the toposolid at the same place, and then editing the boundaries of both parts.

Hi @Alfredo_Medina ... I had tried the method you suggest - but all the boundary points revert to an elevation of zero (which defeats the purpose). Thanks for the suggestion though.

 

It would be good to understand what conditions lead to a fail. I've had some success now offsetting the lines from the breakline / folding lines (by a small increment like 10mm) so I think it might be involved with that somehow? This is the best workaround I've found so far but its less than ideal! Creates 3 times the number of points along that edge. 

 

Interested to hear what other workarounds people have found.

Thanks folks good suggestions. @ToanDN I don't think it has a relationship to the number of line segments (as offsetting the same number of line segments by 10mm is still successful) ... The spline solution isn't really practical - these split lines are being picked from a survey file and I really need to remain accurate to this.

Why do you need to split it in two?  

 

You could cut it with a mass.

That is splitting hair. 

 

1. You can draw a spline with control points matching the lines endpoints.  

2. Based on the nature of that split, I believe the intent was a smooth curve and they extrapolated it to line segments.  Drawings are to deliver the design intent and the spline serves that purpose.

3. It is a sitework, not an iPhone mock-up template, so consider the reasonable tolerance required, it isn't in the realm of millimeters.

Thanks for the effort in coming up with a spline workaround. It is a good solution however considering the number of split lines I need to reproduce a 10mm offset is going to work better in this context (both in terms of accuracy and time).

Use TAB key to select multiple contiguous lines in one fell swoop.
