split region button disabled

hello, 

i am trying to use the split region feature to be able to show two different finishes on one wall. Mine is greyed out and disabled... how do i activate it?

Make the Preview a Section View.

well thats what i mean, i need to split region on the finishes. I need to have 10' of brick and 2'-6" of wood on a 12'-6" wall.

See the "View" Window in Edit Assembly? Toggle it to Section.

it is on section and still is disabled

Make sure the layers are NOT set to Variable...once you have variable layers that will disable Splitting and Merging layers of the wall
