Split face command errors

I have come across multiple errors while using face split command.What do they mean and how to resolve them.

You can have more than one splits on a surface but each split must be one continuous string.  See screenshot.

What do you mean by "continuous string"?

I tried the way it was shown in the video but I am still getting  errors.
