Split face and Split Element

I'm using the split face tool to change the look of the exterior facade.

If I actually want to change the structure or the finish thickness of wall portion - say a small square within a larger wall, I have to use the split element tool.

This this a pain as I can't cut out sections of the wall as I would using the split face tool. Is there a better method?

Sounds like you are talking about embedding another wall type into the wall. This has nothing to do with Split Face.

...Edit Profile and/or Cutting would get you there though.

You can create parts from the wall, divide parts to the section you want to change, turn on shape handle and you can grip edit parts then change to a different material.

If I cut out a piece of exterior finish, say brick, and  change it to a metal finish, I can't also affect the thickness of this material.

In actuality, the metal would be recessed as the brick is thicker. How can I achieve this?

Why don't you just embed a different wall type?
