SOP for using phasing for replacement of windows in a project

I'm having an issue with a project in which we are just replacing the existing windows with new windows.  I can easily create an Existing Conditions view showing the Existing building with existing windows.  The next view I want to show is the demo view, again pretty straight forward.  There are two phases, existing and new construction.  My demo view shows existing and demo with the demo'd windows overridden with the default phase filter.

I would like to create a New Construction view that shows the new windows in the openings left when I demolished the existing windows.  I guess the problem is that when I demolish the existing windows it automatically infills the openings with new construction walls?  If I place a new window in there it does not cut a hole but still shows the frame of the window.  This is not what I want.  Please advise.

Regards Peter.

You need (2) Views:

1. Floor Plan - Demo --Phase New Construction, Show Previous & Demo

2. Floor Plan-Proposed -- Phase New Construction, Show Complete

It helps to also have a working view  with Phase New Construction, Show All--so you can see the existing wall, demo'd windows, and new windows all in the same view.

There is a simple solution for this.

Lets say you did this:

1. You demolished the existing window (phase created: existing, phase demolished: new construction)

2. You copied the existing window to clipboard and then you paste it to same place. You what you got is a new window which is positioned where the existing was.  (phase created: new construction)

The result is that the new window didn't cut the hole. Do this while not zooming: nudge the new window to the left and then nudge it back to the right. It will cut the hole. I tested. It works

I had the same issue in a past Project,  your doors and/or windows in demo and new are the same width?  I could manage changing down a Little the width in the demolished Windows/doors, with this Little change the new Windows touch the Wall (not the infill) and that Works fine.

In a big Project, or with many changes and demolished elements, you can also think about using diferrent linked models one for demo and one for new, becouse also the Wall joints can be very tricky when get involved four or more walls (demolished still interact with the joint).
