SOO MANY VERSIONS

I started doing this in Central Florida area few years ago with small firms, and it picked up like wild fire. Now just want to share it with the World for their use.

Some firms serve many clients, and these clients use of Revit version varies , example Revit 2019, Revit 2020, Revit 2021 and so on.

When opening files in preview it is not a friendly enough to indicate what version it is.

Solution and procedure I started doing is for my model within the project name I place R and the version year, example Temple Run R21

Also do this for my project folder name. I also add it to our own internal client archive/receivables folder name.

This way it cuts down on figuring out moving forward what version it is.

Our clients caught on to that and assimilated. Good luck.

Agreed. It is not.

Technically, the build version is embedded in the .rvt file, it's readable in Notepad.

....that being said, opening a several dozen/hundred megabyte Notepad file will often crash the application, which doesn't do you a lot of good. Agreed that the discovery method is a bit silly, maybe this is something Autodesk could take an old-school approach on with variants on the file icon by edition?

I worked in the past with a discipline that developed their own 3D software and had a few good amount of staff /programmers just for that. I got to see magic happen , also how they push new versions out after they created new commands, but alongside with that tweaked previous ones that did not work. All these years I just feel Autodesk does not like to waste time/resources on what may be minor things to them.

I've been tagging files with the version since say before this feature was added.

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.
