solar analysis in revit

I am very new to revit an I am having trouble figuring out how to run a solar analysis. I am making a model of a building and I want to know how much solar exposure each solar panel will get year round factoring in shading. I have 2016 and 2017, I've watched heaps of tutorials but I am still unsure of the best way to conduct it. I've tried installing the solar analysis plugin and tried using insight 360 but can't get them to work.

Any advice?

It's very simple and doesn't require any plugins.

Thanks I was wanting to do shadowing so that will be useful. Though I was hoping to get the solar exposure/intensity on select surfaces (to get a rough estimate of the output of the solar panels year round)

Hey

I think the "Illuminance" render in cloud would do what you are looking for. I've not used the function extensevley but i know it produces intensity of light (from artificial or natural source) on any surface visible in the view. 

When you go to do a render, select the drop down for "Output Type" and select the lluminance option. Set the date etc or tick to use the views current settings and you are good to go.
