Slow wifi since the installation of Revit 2016

Hello Autodesk Community.

 

For school I had to install Revit 2016. I downloaded Revit with 10+mb/s. After the installation I discovered that my wifi is very slow. Since the installation I almost never saw the 1mb/s again. I asked a teacher at school and he seriously said that I was the first person who came to him with this problem. He also couldn't imagine that Revit would cause wifi problems and nobody else in my class is complainging about slow wifi after the installation of Revit.

 

I called Lenovo but there ware also not able to help me. They only helped me with reinstalling he wifi driver and I no have 2mb/s (I was the only user of the wifi network when I tested it).

I also tried to disable A360 and Akamain netsession client in the startup list but that did not help. So I hope that somebody here could help me.

Does your ISP impose a periodic (eg, monthly) high-speed download quota that, once exceeded, results in slower download speeds for the balance of the period?  Perhaps the Revit download pushed you over the limit for this period?

 

[This is pure speculation on my part and may not be the reason why you are now experiencing slower downloads.]

What does ISP mean?

 

Since the installation I never say a higher speed dan 1mb/s. A few days later I needed to download autocad. I tried at two different days and on both days the download speed ended on 0b/s. I also did verious speed test on different days and I alsmost never saw a speed higher that 1mb/s.

Thanks ennujozlagam for your explaination of ISP. Now can I answer your question. The answer is no. We don't have a download quota. I went to a teacher at school today and he said that Revit may not be the problem but that the problem started at the same time when I installed Revit but that Revit did not start the problem.

I had the same problem, it cause by Revit, there is a process named like "autodesk", and this process will cause wifi scan frequently(less then 1min),  when wifi scan occure, the net adapter will change channel to probe wifi singal, it will observably slow down your wifi.

 

just kill autodesk process, and you will find wifi back to normal. ^ ^

Hey,

 

Thanks for your reaction first.

 

On the image can you see the processes that are running. There is a process called: autodesk applocation manager. Do you mean this program?

If yes, is there a way to prevent this process from starting when the computer starts? because when I end the task, it will be reactivated when I start my laptop again.

I have the application manager disabled in the startup list so it should not startup.

@vvanduijnhoven, Good job!  The solution is perfet. And ...

What I wonder is that why "autodesk applocation manager" casue wifi scan so frequently, when i used omnipeek to capture the wireless packet, I found the laptop sended 802.11 probe packets every 6 senconds when "autodesk applocation manager" process was running. And when I killed it, frequently scan disappeared . Could you please ask some teachers or some Revit software engineers for more information about this phenomenon?  thank you very much. I was so curiosity about it and look forward to learn more

Thank you so much for your reply.

I now disabled "autodesk application manager" in the startup list aswell in the services list so it won't startup anymore when I start windows.

 

The download speed is now by default around the 20Mbps so that is lots faster as the 8Mbps.

 

I have vacation at the moment so I am not at school but when I am at school I will ask the teacher if they know why the application manager is scanning so frequent. I will also tell them the solution because I was the first one who asked them for this problem so they want to know the solution to.

 

Again, thank you so much for helping and I will reply you when I asked the teachers.

Hey,

 

Sorry for my extremely late reaction. I asked the teachers and what they think is that the application manager scans for new updates. Of course is it strange that this happens so much but that is the only thing they thought that could be problem.

 

I disabled the application manager now and my wifi is faster now, again thanks.
