Sloped floor join loses materials

Setting the scene, I have an existing floor with slopes modeled (using modify sub element). On top of this I am looking to place a ramped deck. This deck is made up of two layers (wood, void former). The void former should vary to fit the existing floor below.

The issue I am having is that when I join the two to cut the bottom of the void former to the floor below, the material buildup is removed and replaced by a nondescript grey.

Any idea what is causing this?

Very interesting issue...I cannot figure out why it turns gray.  If you use the Join Geometry command and select the ramp first (upper object) and then select the lower object, the join occurs and the gray is not present.  If you use the Join Geometry command and select the bottom object first, then the top object, everything goes gray....still investigating...

Hope this helps as least.

Dzan, I was investigating this issue some time ago as well and that's what I found. It still remains a mystery why Revit doesn’t like the placement/location of those two floors in relation to each other.

i have put in an Autodesk tech support case for this...I am stumped...I thought it might have to do with legacy dominant behavior but am still stuck...will let you know what autodesk says...

now we are getting somewhere....so I changed the Object Style material for floors from Default Material of Default Floor to wood and the gray disappeared and now shows wood.

Hello @anthony-studiogrieveson , @dzanta

Not sure there is no bug (it has been the case ever since I can remember.. You need to edit the Floor Type >> Go to Edit Structure >> Uncheck the "Variable" property of the Core..

This will make it flat at the bottom to sort that out we always used

1. Void to clean up

2. A second bottom layer set as variable

This bahavior also occures with Joined walls when certain wall layers set to Variable

  1. use a floor with modified Subelements for the lower structure,
  2. use a roof for the upper structure (should align without join)

As mentioned, uncheck Variable for the core layer.  The part sticking out can be trimmed by a void.

Or you can break the top into smaller floors with different thicknesses and they can join nicely while maintaining the original materials.  See pictures and screencast below.
