Introduction
Site designer add-in is a simple tool set for doing some basic civil/site design functions inside Revit. It provides the interoperability between Civil 3D and Revit.
With this add-in, now we have the ability to import and export LandXml file. LandXml format in Civil is similar to IFC format in building, which is the most popular format for exchange information between Civil software.
Workflow
Site Designer enables architects, designers, and planners to shape the terrain for building sites using grading tools to model pads, parking lots, streets, sidewalks, and retaining walls. Site Designer uses Revit families, components, and toposurfaces, so designs become part of the overall building information model without the need to transfer between design systems.

Install Site Designer Add-in
For Revit 2016 and older version, the Site designer add-in can be download from this link:
downloadFor Revit 2017 version, the Site Designer add-in is provided automatically from Autodesk update software.
Create a toposurface for Site Designer
The process for creating a toposurface in Revit from the exported data from Civil 3D is as following figure:

Create and Modify Soft Terrain
The process for creating a Soft terrain in Revit is as following figure:

Create Streets, Sidewalks and CurbsTo create streets and sidewalks, Site Designer add in will modify the toposurface with the slope of the street or sidewalk at the proposed position. It also generates the new streets and sidewalks in the model so you can visualize them.
Special Site Designer families for streets allow you to manage the number of lanes, cross-slopes, curb and gutter placement, materials, and slope projection settings. Sidewalk families allow you to control the sidewalk width, depth, material, and slope projection settings.
Create parking lots When generating a parking lot, Site Designer add will do the following steps:
- Modify the toposurface and place the pavement surface depth into it.
- Add a new parking lot toposurface.
- Assigns the parking lot material based on the selected family.
Conclusion
Site Designer add-in is the great tools that brings the power of Civil 3D into Revit. It helps the Civil team generates the illustration of the intended designer quickly and easier. It also supports the bridge design function which will be presented in the next post.
Thank you and have a nice day :D.
