simple but not ugly pedestal sink family

There is no pedestal sink included with the OOTB families so I looked at some recommended sites, including Bimobject, and also went to Kohler. The sink I chose came in on the floor plan as if it were an elevation. I tried using the space bar, going to the properties browser, editing the type, but nothing worked. I could insert it in an elevation or section view and see if then displays properly in the plan.

I tried another Kohler sink and had the same problem. And of course these families are kind of large so I purged it. I know I should be wary of family downloads, but thought that an established company like Kohler might be a good source.

Also, I've seen recommendations to use a 2D model. Do you agree? I'm wary of over modeling but want to take advantage of the fact that this is a 3D program.

I'm still a Revit newbie and know that I will have to learn to create families soon (not only that, but I'm wondering if the fact that I'm using Revit LT 2021 means my family creating options are limited). In the meantime, though, it's good to know of decent sources.

Thanks again everyone.

Thanks again, barthbradley! I hope you don't mind my keeping you busy.

That would have been a great suggestion, but I have the same problem: the sink elevation comes in on the plan view. Not only that, but I switched to a section view and - sure enough - I get a plan of the sink there! I went to "edit type" to look for some parameter that seemed relevant but found none. I also briefly went to "edit family" but didn't know what to do. Am I somehow rotated 90 degrees in Revit-space? The OOTB families seem to work.

The problem seems to be consistent. I hope that makes it easier to correct.

That is a Face-Based Family. When you place the Family in the Project View, look at its 3 Placement Options shown on the Contextual Tab and pick the one that applies.

Probably what happened, is that you placed it on a Vertical Face instead of on a Work Plane.  That's my guess.
