showing linked models via linked view - Complex Plans

Hi All

I have a rather uncommon issue, on our set of floor plans, we show very large level changes (large concert halls) so we have many plan regions set up so the plan can read correctly showing the movement of people as per the design.

We are using a linked view setup where within our sheet model we link the geometry models so we avoid needing to have these plan regions in multiple views/ models.

However, the issue comes when we want to show structure within the drawing coming from the consultant model as structure within the sheet model is set to "by host View" and the required plan regions to make the view look correct are within the geometry models. I want to avoid linking the models within the geometry file by attachment as it slows the model too much as the worksets are not coordinated across the entire consultant team. We also have a lot of models as its a very large building.

I'm wondering is there is a solution to keep the models linked via overlay in all models, but get it to display in the sheet model as it does within the geometry file.

Thanks in advance!

Explain the situation to your consultants and ask them to place the same plan regions that you have, with the same boundaries and view range settings, in a view that is named in a certain way that is related to your office. Then, in your model, you link their models using "by linked view" > choose that view that they setup for you.

Thanks for your response. This is an option, however I'm concerned that this is may not be a fool proof method of resolving this issue as there is a risk of us updating a region and that not being replicated.

The solution we have come up with is to have the structure models linked as attachment within a workset named unique to each geometry model, then within the sheet model to have all the unique worksets defaulted off, any only shown on within the view template of the required drawings. We then also link the same structure models within the sheet model as an overlay which is on a workset that remain on.

The concern I have now is model performance, so I will be testing it over the next few days to see if I can see a reduction.

There's no such thing unfortunately and fools can be quite clever 🙂

Have you tired not using "By Linked View"?

Rob

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

Link display set to By Host View should respect whatever plan regions you placed in the view, does it not?
