I'm trying to make a wall opening visible as hidden lines but I can't get it to work.
I only need the opening part, I've filtered out the entire wall yet I still don't get the entire opening.
On the first image you can see only a part is shown as hidden, when I select the object you can see all 4 lines, that's what I want it to look like.
Can anybody help?
Edit: The objects are from a linked model.
What it looks like now
What I want it to look like
Create the family as a door or window family with only the Cut opening and symbolic or model lines under a subcategory that shows dashed.
Forgot to mention the objects are from a linked model, do you also know how to do it in this case?
The model is not mine, so each time the model is updated I'd have to do load it in. There's no other way to get the lines as hidden?

Assuming the opening in the link file were create NOT as families, you can create a face based family with parametric hidden lines, host them on the linked wall in your model and match the opening dimensions. Or create in place model and use pick lines tool to draw hidden lines by picking the linked opening.
I don't want to draw anything manually, I want it to show or copy from existing files in the same location.
You say the Wall/Opening is in a Linked File? Go to Collaborate=>Copy/Monitor=>Select Link=>Copy and then select the Wall and press Finish. Now a copy of the Wall resides in your Project. That work for you?
This would mean copying all the objects from the linked file manually. All I want is for the lines to show, it needs to be clear on the floorplan if the void still has concrete above it, or if the void is the entire height of the ceiling.
Showing hidden lines automatically from Links should be possible via working with View Disciplines (On the Properties Panel) & Visibility Graphics/RVTLinks...
However, not knowing how your models are set up and what disciplines they are...You can on the Properties Palette try setting the Show Hidden Lines to All

I do know how the model has been set up, that's why I've set a filter to show the object as hidden lines. The thing is it doesn't show all the lines as hidden lines, unless you select the ojbect as shown in my opening post.
Sorry I cannot not tell much from the little information you have provided...How are you filtering elements from the link? Are you using Worksets? or categories?

Sorry, I've filtered the elements the following way: V/G Overrides Filters -> Creating a new filter -> Check Categorie Doors -> Contains part of family name -> Projection Surface / Cut Overrides lines.
See the attachments I've added for the element, the void and the wall it resides in.
Hi @YungPadawan ,
In the door family, may I know if there's anything modelled other than the wall opening? Was there any detail lines/ model lines created inside?
Wall Openings does not have any feature to be overridden in Filter. Unless you've created geometry such as extrusion or lines, these are the objects that are being overridden by filters.
It was this simple all this time lol. Thanks!!
Perhaps there's a way to automate this, applying linework tool to all similair objects if anybody knows? A plugin or with Dynamo perhaps?
Is there a way to write a script to create these extrusions filtering by category family name?
Besides the wall opening the family contains a wall, a void extrusion, an invisible line, also I just noticed it contains symbolic lines, but not on the longer sides.
Would you also recommended using the linework tool, or do you prefer a different method to solve this?

Yeah it is doable using dynamo BUT comparing your above 2 statements... something doesn't make sense here!!! You do not want to do it manually yet linework was what you were looking for!!!
Wouldn't it have been easier if you
in other words collaborate with those you are working with rather than doing things on your own!!!
Even if you have to reload the families whenever you receive a new version of the link it would still be easier that using linework!

This was the first thing I tried actually, yet the company who creates the model doesn't want to edit all their families for this purpose.
Another thing could be to everytime load in the family I edit myself I guess.
Even if you have to load the revised family everytime you receive a new link! Wouldnt that be easier that applying line work on some 50 or 100 openings?!
But again as stated previously nothing about your post makes sense...you started with a hidden opening ended with door openings and linework!
