Show formulas for area calculation in schedules

Hello everybody, I have a very awkward question and I hope someone can shed some light.

For an official document, I have to submit area plans for every room. So far so good. The problem comes when in this document I am not allowed to only show the area, but I also have to show THE FORMULA WITH WHICH REVIT CALCULATES IT. An example to make it clearer:

I have a 3x2m room. In the schedule i need to show the following: "3m x 2m = 6m2"

So my question is: is there a way that Revit does this automatically? You can imagine how much work is to define the formulas manually in a project with more than a thousand rooms in which 90% are not rectangular.

Thank you very much!

Simple answer is no.  The manner in which the area is calculated isn't accessible as I'm sure you can imagine for some rooms this could be massively complex...

Just to add, i think this is an utterly a ridiculous request from whoever is asking for it but I get you don't necessarily have a choice.  Perhaps providing some indication that the Revit values are accurate might be an alternative route?

Sadly I have to agree with @Keith_Wilkinson.

Sometimes there are no easy solution, even with a software that advanced as Revit...

How are you supposed to formulate the calculation of complex rooms though?

Integrals are fun for complex rooms with curves but seriously, I doubt anyone will check the calculations one by one.. What an odd demand...?

Anyway stay strong,

I couldn't agree more... Sometimes german bureaucracy drives me crazy.

I know AllPlan has the ability to do so, but just the fuss of going through different softwares was worth the try.

Thank you very much!

That's interesting, could you post an example from AllPlan?  Ideally something complex, I would love to see how it's doing that...

I have no idea how to do it, as I don't use AllPlan, but a colleague has just showed me a result straight out of it and this is what it gives:

Apparently it subdivides the area in small pieces and then adds them or subtracts them in the case of columns or other elements that reduce the net surface.

Why don't you try to use Roombook (Areabook Buildingbook ) application ?

It make a dissection of every Room surface and once exported in Excel, appear, graphically and by calculation as shown bellow.

Now, that's nice too. Blimey, it's been an education this morning. :leicht_lächelndes_Gesicht:

Hey,

I also wish for the same solution, I don't draw such large projects; I draw smaller residential homes. It would be good for the dimension values in a to automatically update in a schedule just to maintain correct values throughout the project, this way does, as long as you re-calculate the AreaBook table and it updates.

It's just a bugger it appears in the format it does.

Not sure if this helps as it does not show the multiplication symbol as an 'x' but as the '*' and it has a plus '+' symbol at the beginning of all the values.

Capture.PNGIn the schedule I had already changed the headers but "NAME"="AB Room Name", "AREA"="AB Living Area" and "ROOM"="AB Subarea Dissection"

Hope this helps.
