I mean is this way is better than using revit link file?

You can't have grandkids if you were never born; right? Well, it is the same thing with a link.  You can't have a link without a Project.

Does that analogy work?

If you don't need other offices to work on the project then yes.

If you are working on all the elements with no 3rd party participants and you use smart modeling methods there is no reason why you couldn't model all in one.

You may want to split the model using worksets to control services, structure and arch.

Let us know the outcome.

Dear all, if I plan to draw all archtech, structure and MEP in the same revit file.

Which template should I use to start a new Project?

I have start with a structure template and draw structure and I work together with my friend (who is an architecher) and another friend (Who is an MEP engineer).
I have use colloborate and create 4 worksets

- Level and Grid

- Arch.
- Structure

-MEP.

And we share the central file in a virtual LAN.
We have problem with view template and sync local file with the central file.

Generally, the planning process starts with the Architectural -- not the Structural.

Yes, I Know. Generally it start project with architechture. first I draw my house by using Sketchup. Everything is ok and then I send to my friend who is structure engineer and he export sketchup to cad file, import to etab and calculation then draw the cad for me.

Drawing structure with sketchup is so difficult that I change to revit struture.

I Want all my friend work together in a same revit by using colloborate and workset. Which template should I use to make sure every friends is happy.

You can use any template you like.  It isn't that critical.  The most critical thing is that everyone is on the same version of Revit.  Revit isn't backward compatible.

There will be things that are missing depending on which template you choose.  For example if you go to draw pipes and you started in the Arch or Struct template then there won't be connections (elbows etc).  Open up a new file from one of those templates and draw some pipe conditions then copy paste it into your project.  This will load some of those setting etc you may be missing.  Otherwise as others have said it doesn't really matter which template you start with you will just be missing stuff.
