Shortcut to change "Location Line"

Hi,

A shortcut for in some way be able to easily switch/cycle through the different options for location lines could be very useful, and save a lot of time.

We work on projects with a lot of different wall types, and everytime I start drawing with a different type of wall (often by using the CS - Create Similar-command) I have to start drawing the wall, and then see it is wrong, press escape, and then I have to move the cursor away from where I'm drawing my wall, and all the way up to the green modify-area on top of the drawing, and then down again. I would really appreciate a keyboard shortcut for this. :leicht_lächelndes_Gesicht:  Aslo - usually I just need two of them - (Finish face exterior or interior), so maybe a way to choose which options to include in the cycle could be nice.

All the best

Ann Kristin

You can use spacebar to flip the wall to switch interior/exterior... is that what you're after?

Nope, that is not enough - unless I use wall centerline as default - which I prefer not to use, since I need the measurment for the actual free space between a wall and an object i.e.

What I need is to be able to cycle through the options for the Location Line, i.e  the "Finish Face: exterior" or the "Finish face: interior"

Never really had much issue with it while drawing to be honest... but FWIW you can also change offset while drawing, you want to flip it to the correct side first though... or you could enter a negative offset ofcourse.

I don't  understand how such a "shortcut" would improve upon, or work any differently that what we already have available to us.

Do you observe the Option Bars when placing Walls? Changing the  "Location Line" on the Options Bar sets the Default justification  for all subsequently placed Walls.  It doesn't change again until you manually set another Default.

Once a Wall has been placed, changing the Location Line does not affect the physical position of the placed walls. It just changes what the Location Line Parameter reads under the Walls' Instance Properties.

FWIW: An alternative workflow would be to sketch all your Walls linework using Model Lines, and then placing Walls via "Pick Lines" Method -- along with the correct Options Bar Location Line setting.  Basically, Wall placement via tracing.

If you want to save a lot of time then layout the walls roughly where they are then go back to locate them precisely using dimensions while using space bar to flip the location lines.

When working with a big project team, and with lots of different wall-types, and you need to make adjustments to a plan - for instance adding a wall, the easiest way to do this is to select an already drawn wall-type and use the CS-shortcut (Create similar). If the original wall is drawn with  "wall centerline" being used, this will also apply to the new wall you create, and that will give you the wrong placement of the wall, so you will need to manually change it. (to i.e. "Finish face: exterior" or interior. )

Using keybord shortcuts are the most efficient way to work imo, so that is why I think this would be an improvement to Revit.

And also - doing things right the first time is another key to efficient work, so placing model lines and then pick line to draw would be double work and waste of time...

Create similar does not copy these instance parameters I believe. The only way to adjust the wall position while drawing is by entering offset values. It might be useful to have spacebar to cycle through all the positions instead of just flipping it, although others might say that's a waste of time aswell...

Yes, Create similar does copy these parameters, at least in Revit 2020.

Some sort of possibility to cycle would be very useful, and it didn't have to be spacebar - it could also be a different key.

I wrote a short script to toggle Location Line of currently selected walls from Finish Face: Exterior to Finish Face: Interior: https://pastebin.com/UzP7R73X
