If you want to flatten the surface of the cone for sheet layout then No, you have to draw it manually, which is not that hard if it is just a cone.  For automation you need Inventor, Solidworks, or Rhino.

Are you saying Revit can't do this?

All the formulas you need can be found in this Link.

Read again. I said it needs to be done manually. You can just select a cone, click a button and have it give you how many full 4x8 sheets and how many other sheets need to be cut to what shapes. Inventor and similar program can do that not Revit.

Okay, so what's your point?  This is a Revit Forum, not an Inventor Forum.  If the guy is tasked with doing a sheet metal layout for a cone in Revit, what should we tell him?  It can't be done?  Or do we provide the information he needs to accomplish the task in Revit?

When someone ask if something can be done in Revit I assume he is looking for a tool in Revit can do the task more easily than by hand.

So I told it has to be done manually, meaning draw the flatten layout of the cone the way you would do in AutoCAD, or by hand, using the height, pitch, and diameter of the cone. Since it can be done that way even by hand, saying Revit can do it is a moot point.

@Anonymous  After you are done figuring out the flatten shape of the cone, draw it using a Filled Region with a model pattern matching the sheet metal dimensions so that you can see how many sheets you will need.

Really??? That's the Solution???

Whatever.

It is some kind of a solution .

But a software this size  you would think it would  have something more flexible.

Like .draw, click  view in flat sheet metal layout

thanks

It’s not a solution – its artwork. It’s a filled region based on zero math. It has no construction value whatsoever. Moreover, it really irks me that you marked it as a solution.

Your question was: “Can I do a sheet metal layout for a cone in Revit?”

The answer to your question is: “Yes; you can do a sheet metal layout for a cone in Revit.”

Heck; I’m no Sheet Metal guy and I was able to build this parametric Revit family in about an hour from the information I found here:

I still am not sure what the answer is, I think it is yes, but you need to do it manually. My question is now: "Can you model things in Revit out of sheet metal, for example a Hopper?

What kind of things can we make out of sheet metal in Revit?
