shed roof - square cut at top edge? please help!

I hope this is very simple but I can't figure out how to make the top edge, or what would be the peak edge, of a roof face have a square cut. It is always perpendicular to the ground plane. I am trying to make a shed roof section with a square cut all the way around, anyone have the answer?
Thanks, matt

Please post a sketch or picture of the roof you are trying to create.

Its not possible its a known bug. either add a fascia sweep to the top edge, edit cut profile or create and inplace family.

Understand, based on what Scott posted. You can return the edge the same thickness, + a 1/4" to 1/2" greater than, as the roof using an extruded roof. You will see a return of the roof material layers at the peak, but could use a masking region to white them out and extend the lines with detail lines.

Of course Scott's methods also work well. With the Hosted Roof Fascia Sweep you could create a triangluar profile with the hypotenuse the same angle as the roof and sweep it along the ridge to square it off. YOu could create an in-place element the same category as the roof to finish the roof edge and Join the Geometry to make them act as one. Or just create the entire roof as an in-place roof with both ends squared off. Each solution has its pluses and negatives with respects to schedules.

Thanks for all the ideas, I ended up extending the roof an extra 6" then cutting off the end to square it up with a "hole". Seems to be working fine but I hate modeling patches. Seems like it would be an easy setting to add, to control roof edge angles. I'll try the other ideas listed in your replies as well. I'm just coming over from Archicad so I'm still learning all of the differences - overall very happy though, most things work better I would say, with a few glaring spots that seem to need development. Can't have it all I guess - I wish Archicad, Revit, and Sketchup could morph into that one perfect program...haha.

You're way too nice Ms Clark. It is now 2017. Ten years after you posted about the "bug" and we still have no solution for making BOTH shed roof fascia cuts square. and no explanation from Adesk. Does this violate some fundamental law of the universe?

At least some sort of notice should appear when you apply the rafter cut to a roof that it doesn't work for shed roofs.

I find this incredible, 11 years later, we still have this problem. More confusing is that the official example of roof by extrusion uses a spline, and the roof edges seem to be perpendicular to it. Can someone from Autodesk step up to the plate and deliver an official response for Revit 2018?

Still waiting for this to be updated.

How hard is it to make a setting where you select "square cut" and the roof is actually square cut all the way around?

It stinks but using a Opening By Face to cut the edge squarely takes less time then typing this reply.

Yes, that's what we do. And it would take less time to just square cut it using the opening, but when we are having to do it on hundreds of roofs each year, posting a comment to keep the issue alive in an attempt for Autodesk to incorporate this simple request at the good of all Revit users ends up more productive.

Thank you for sharing this workaround to get a square roof edge!   Works great.  After squaring off the roof edge, the fascia works nicely.  It would definitely be better if Revit gave you the option for a square cut edge on a roof - especially since that's how most wood framed roofs are made.

Autodesk!!!! Still no simple square cut edge? Why do you have a two cut -square (that only cuts the lower edge) but not a simple square?  Such a basic feature and still missing.

Just doing my part here to keep this alive. 5,638 days.  Autodesk, can you do it just to be nice?
