hello. I'm an architectural designer trying to accomplish a beam system for a shed dormer roof like the sketch I drew.
In this version, I am testing it with a beam on one side and a structural wall on the other. (I made one of the beams extend beyond the wall). However, I can't find a way to offset the beam system on the wall side so that it sits over it rather than through it (the structural wall). Would anyone be able to point me in the right direction?
Alternatively #1, I realize I can connect the beam system to a beam rather than the wall, and offset the beam z offset value. However, I was leaning towards using a wall since it minimizes structure I need to model.
Alternatively #2: I saw some tutorials online where they apply the beam structure to the work plane of a roof. But in my small experience with beam systems, it seems like 3d connections to beam elements is a better strategy?

Lower the wall. Edit the beam family and set the 3d beam to be visible for ALL detail levels (coarse, medium, fine) and reload. Join the wall with the beams.
Lowering the wall brings the beams with it. As they are 3d snapped to it. I was wondering if I can make them sit above the wall.
