Sharing a model via BIM360 Public Share Link - linked files are also transmitted

Hello all,

I have been testing this process to create a workflow for my team mates. Enabled the Public Link For Project setting in the Project Admin area, came back to Project files, selected the project, clicked the Share button, emailed it to share with public (my personal email).

When I try to share a Published file via the Public Share Link, the link also downloads all of the linked models too. But if I cycle back to restore the unpublished version, the file is transferred correctly without the linked models - but it also does not have the latest modifications.

What did I miss? Scratching my head here....

Rina

Hello Rina, thank you for the question!

Can you confirm that the correctly transferred Revit model opens successfully?

I've seen some cases where depending on the published state of the model, the ZIP (containing the model and links) is incorrectly download with an RVT extension.

Hello Lance,

Thank you for your reply. The correctly transmitted file does open correctly - the .ZIP is extracted without any surprises, but without the additions that would be seen in the published file.

I found the following article with more details on the expected behavior when downloading from BIM 360:

Downloaded source file from BIM 360 does not contain linked Revit files

Is the behavior you are seeing consistent with the information from the article above?

@Lance.Coffey

- I did look at the resource.

Revit 2020 projects behave as is stated in the AKN.

Revit 2019 projects do not - even when the Project and all the linked files are published, the public link brings a ZIP file with all of the models in it. I have tested this on numerous projects with the same result.

Is this a version specific issue - possibly compatible with versions 2020 and above ?

Hello @Sahay_R , thank you for the update!

I just tested the following with Revit 2019:

  1. Host model and Links are all up to date and published.
  2. Host model is shared as public link.
  3. Download is a ZIP containing only the host model.
  4. Live linked model is modified, and not published.
  5. Host is opened (seeing changes in link) and synchronized.
  6. Host is published (so that changes in link are now visible on BIM 360).
  7. Download through existing public link is a ZIP containing another ZIP with the host and the link.
  8. Publish link.
  9. Host is opened and synchronized.
  10. Host is published.
  11. Download through existing public link is a ZIP containing only the host model.

In your testing, did you make sure to open/synchronize/publish the host model after successfully publishing all of the links?
