Shared Sub-components in Assemblies

I have created a family with "shared" nested families (so that the sub components can be tagged, scheduled, etc.).  When adding the family to an assembly only the non-shared components are added.  To add the shared sub-components they must be selected individually (windowing won't work).

To replicate:

1. Create a simple extrusion in a generic model family (Family1).

2. Check Shared in properties.

3. Load it into a new generic model family (Family2).

4. Create (2) instances of Family1

5. Load Family2 in a project and create an instance of it.

6. Select it and create an assembly.

7. Create an assembly view and go to it...empty.

Is this intended behavior?  Am I missing something?

Yes this is the normal behaviour which you have to be aware of.

If it is intended I do not know. I can imagine that you intially select (windowing) the items belonging to the assembly and that the nested families are not selected because it can only be assumed to be part of the selection. So they 'ask' you to specifically select nested items after creating the intitial assembly.

Intended or not, that is how it works.

It is a little nuissance sometimes but for me not a big deal. Of course you could always give FEEDBACK to Autodesk and request to change its behaviour.
