Shared parameter in project information category only allows instance? Need type

Hello guys,

I am trying to create new parameters to add into the project information section of my template project. I would like all of the parameters to be text parameters and I want them to be type parameters so what I type will change all throughout the project.

An example would be 'Client Phone' which I am trying to create as a type parameter so it can easily be changed in any sheet in the project. I am hoping to make other parameters with the same ability, however Revit only seems to allow me to select Project Information if I have selected the shared parameter to be an instance instead of a type parameter. I do not want this to be the case though. Are there any template shared parameters someone may be able to help with to show me how to go about this?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Jacob

so here's where I am confused. You say you DO NOT want the Project Parameter (e.g. Phone Number) to be an Instance Type, but you DO want to change Instances of it.   Am I reading you right?

No no, I am saying that I don't want it to be an instance I want it to be a type parameter, however whenever I select type as the category I no longer have the ability to check the box for 'project information' as it no longer appears as an option.

I have attached a couple of images of what I am trying to achieve. I am actually using a template project that was previously set up by an ex-colleague of mine and am trying to make improvements. I can see that they were able to do what I am trying to achieve, as you can see that they have created several parameters in the project information such as client name. This is shown in the project information setting under other, and when the text is edited in this box it is edited throughout the project. The parameter Client Name can be added as a label into the project. This is what I am hoping to achieve. Capture.JPG

Thanks for sending the link, it was fairly helpful up until the point I am struggling with. The video shows someone adding a shared parameter that is an instance into the sheets, I am hoping to add a shared parameter under project information as a type parameter. Is this possible?

Regardless of what the Project Information dialog box would seem to suggest, the Project Information System family cannot have "Types" nor can you create an "Instance" of "Project Information".

Project Information is a simple storage container that is used for the shared information that you are trying to create. One you assign a shared parameter to "Project Information" and then fill it out it is done. It is it's own family and the only possible instance of itself that can exist in a project. You can then use the many published procedures to schedule that info, to create tags using that info, to use the info as labels in your titleblocks, etc.

It looks like what you are doing in your screenshot is editing a Titleblock Label at the Project Level, and that Label is tied to the "Client Name" Project Parameter.  If so, that's easily reproducible.  Create a Project Parameter (USING A SHARED PARAMETER) and assign it to Project Information by following the instructions I linked you to in my first posted reply. Then edit your Titleblock family and create a Label using the EXACT SAME Shared Parameter that you used for the Project Information Project Parameter.  When you reload the Titleblock Family into the Project, the Label will populate automatically or you can fill it in directly, which will simultaneously populate the Project Information Parameter of the same name.
