I have used shared coordinates to set the coordinates of my revit model to the coordinates that I have in Cad site plan. I have checked various points on the cad file and the revit model to make sure that the coordinate numbers all match and they do, however when I'm linking the cad file into my revit model, I select auto shared coordinates which normally makes the site plan come in aligned with building because they both have the same coordinate system. It works on my other projects but is not working properly on the project that I'm working now, the link keeps coming in at the wrong place not aligned with the building and I don't know why. any solutions?
Can you elaborate on what u meant by "using shared coordinates to set the coordinates of your revit model to those of the cad file"? Publish/acquire? Or ...?
Is your CAD file clean?
Has the project been set far off from the plate's origin/start up?

Below is how I did it step by step :
Placed a point on my site plan in cad to get the x and y coordinates of that point,
Went into my revit model and placed a point on the same location on the model.
clicked on specify coordinates at a point. then i went back to cad to copy the x and y coordinates from the point that I had selected.
Went back to into revit and pasted the x and y coordinates that I copied from cad into the specify coordinates dialogue box
I then also got the angle of the site plan orientation and placed those same numbers into my revit model's true north orientation.
Then when linking the site plan i ticked auto shared coordinates and normally this places the site exactly aligned on top of the building the both now have the same coordinates.
For some reason even they though both the link and the revit model both have the same coordinates, the link keeps coming in a different location, its not on top of the building
That might have worked for you on one project or another but that's not the proper workflow for using shared coordinates. Please check the link below from Autodesk knowledge network

I got those steps from the official autodesk youtube account where they've made a tutorial on shared coordinates

That method should work too... how did u set the shared coordinates system in revit? Assign coordinates at point?
Are the units matching? And the cad file cleaned up/flattened?

Yes the units do match and when you say flatten, do mean has the site been done as a block and not exploded ?
Hi @emmanuelbee
Can you share a file to test, journal and a screencast with the steps?
I can send you a private folder based on your preference.

Thanks for the screencast, I will also need a journal, file a data-set to proceed with the investigation.
As mentioned earlier, I can share a private upload link with you.
Looking forward to your reply update.
