Shaft opening base and top not working

Hi,

I am making some basic shapes for fireplaces using walls, floors and openings. The first image shows a pdf example of the fireplace I want to make. I'm using LT 2020, so I don't have all the shape modelling in the full version. The second image shows 2 elements, the one at the back is a wall with a wall opening all the way through, the second is a floor element with a shaft through only part of it. I have highlighted the shaft element in blue. See the properties - I have entered a base offset of 200 and a height of 900. This seems to be defining the blue area - great, but for some reason this doesn't do anything to the base and height of the shaft shown (as shown grey). The shaft runs all the way through, which I don't want. Am I missing something? Thanks

Instead of using shaft, try to create a wall using the model in place tool and some void extrusions, then cut it off the host wall. Go to Components > Model in Place > Choose the "wall" category > Create the void extrusions the way you want it > use the cut tool, clic on the wall, then on the void

Component > Model In PlaceComponent > Model In Place

The shaft opening cuts holes through floors - it won't cut a piece of floor out as you are trying to do.  Use a void for this.

I would also suggest a different method to achieve what your'e trying to do.  My suggestion is to create a sweep with that profile - you can do the whole object with one sweep.

Hi,

The shaft will cut the entire floor not partially.

Draw 2 walls one thick, and a thinner one and cut the thick one with the smaller one (Embed Wall)

Done.

Well it's not quite done yet.  You need another six walls still, each with a different thickness.

Model this whole thing in a Face-Based or Wall-Based Family Template, and cut the Host in the Family with an Opening or a Void Extrusion.  Examine any Window Family to see how this is done.

There are Fireplace Manufacturers that provide Revit Families, either directly from their Website or through sites like BIMObject.  You ought to examine theirs to see how they do it.
