Shadows pixelate

Hi,

I am having problems with some 3d graphics, shadows aren't showing smooth but pixelated instead. I have a Nvidia GeForme Gtx graphic card, so I don't think this is the problem.

I attach an image with the error.

Thanks in advanceduda gráficos.PNG

No, I do not (in the 3d view). I have realized that introducing a "plane" or terrain makes the pixels go away 95% or the time. I do not know if its a graphic problem or simply an error occuring just to my document.

Thanks for the reply!

I am having the same problem.  Sometimes I can correct it by zooming in and out a couple of times.  I have no idea as to how to deal with it.

It’s only on screen I suppose.

Not sure what the question is asking, yes it is on the screen (i haven't tried printing it).

I have had a thought though, I am using a Microsoft Surface with the docking station, I am going to check it out tomorrow as to whether or not it occurs on the laptop monitor as well as the larger screen I have on my desk.  I will  follow up on the forum after that.....

Try to print or PDF and see if it’s there. I think this is only some graphic issue on the screen. I suggest you just leave it if the print and PDF is fine.

Otherwise you can try to unable the hardware accelerator setting in Option. Or update your graphic card drive.

shadow glitch.pngI am noticing this happens in Revit 2017.  It could be graphical glitch. I seems to get it more if you have object with blank background.

Did anyone happen to figure this out? Having the same issue...

There must be a toposurface or floor (or any kind of surface) so shadow has something to land on. If building 'hangs' in air, there is no place for shadow to show up.  Had same issue, created a toposurface and it worked out.

Reinstalling GPU drivers has fixed this when it occurred in our office.  Your mileage may vary...

(late reply, but incase others are searching in future)

Edit: This has been 'marked as a solution,' but just to be complete: note that while it generally should be a graphics driver issue, just reinstalling may not be enough for everyone's system, you may need to do a clean reinstall, or do an indepth driver removal with DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller from Guru3D) before reinstalling the driver (or even roll back to an earlier driver version).

I am using Revit 2019 and did not have this problem with older computer. New one comp, with super strong graphic card and I am experiencing glitches with every scenes, even sample one. I have found temporary solution with disabling  "Use hardware acceleration (direct3D)" in Revit, options, hardware.

The good enough solution is to:
Graphic Display Options > Lighting > Sun Setting: > Un-check Ground Plane at Level:

It actually shows up pixelated once you make a pdf as well. Interestingly enough, even when it looks well on the screen, sometimes it will still come out pixelated on the pdf, so it doesn't only affect the views in the program but also the output

Make a base with Mass in place that covers all the area shadows will fall. This solves the issue

To add to the causes of the pixelated or shifting shadows:

1. The floors are present to "catch" the shadow but are transparent

2. Multiple floor (or similar surfaces) overlapping

3. Origin point too far

4. Shadow angle too sharp - for start or end of the day, for example. those elongated shadows don't always work right

The shadow displays and PDFs pixelated when the view is open on my laptop screen. When I hook it up to a normal screen it displays and PDFs correctly.
