Sequence of Parameters in Family Environment

Once a family has been placed into a project, if I select that family, I see it's parameters in Properties.  How can I change the sequence of those parameters in the project?

Are you talking about Re-Grouping them.  It's a pain in the buttocks once they are loaded and placed and used in the Project.

Go to these links:

NOTE: If they are not Shared Parameters, there is nothing you can do except remove the family ENTIRELY from the Project, re-order the Parameters in the Family and then re-load the Family ito the Project.

edit the family, select the parameter to move and use the "move Parameter" tool at the bottom. if your talking about re-catagorizing them follow @barthbradley links :-).

And if you have 2 or more families that utilize the same parameters they will each show the sequence as they were arranged when the family was first imported --- but, I just had one of my parameters 'jump groups'. In both families I had that shared parameter grouped under Electrical, and it is grouped in Electrical in my SharedParams.txt file as well, but it magically jumped to 'Electrical - Loads' upon inserting and placing some instances of two families where the parameter was in 'Electrical' group in both. WTH?

In other news, it is possible to change the group a parameter is in within the project environment, simply find or make a schedule containing that Param, and click the Edit pencil and change the group pull-down in that dialog. This will cause it to go to the Group you just selected, but it's sequence within that group is still arbitrary - so a huge bummer for end users.  And then there's still the issue of 'magic group jumping'...

sigh...  I try to set up my families so that the parameters are in sequence matching the schedule they pertain to, and then this crap happens.  This is why we cant have nice things.  Mr. Autodesk, could we get some sort of logic to this, maybe by Revit 2025?

Did you read anything I posted for you?

Yeah, I did. I wasn't talking about the Groupings. I was talking about the order of of the parameters in the Groupings mostly, which there seems to be no 'direct' way to do. Maybe when I have a few weeks to spare (sarcasm), I can load and export all my families to new RFA's.

Cheers.

What the heck are you talking about then?

...probably related to the way you are opening the family (e.g. "Edit Family" vs. "Open: Family").

I only mentioned groupings after you brought it into the convo, the OP said nothing about groupings. But it was good dialog to have, and related to the OP.  Anyways, seems there's not an officially blessed way to do what I was hoping for, just workarounds.

Cheers.

Thank God for workarounds then.  Right? Many of the things I do in Revit everyday are workarounds -- and some of the "officially blessed" things I do in Revit everyday were once "workarounds".   Such is life.
