Separating a model into two models linked together

I have a model that I want to separate into two models, linked to eachother.
I want one model to be all the wall, door and floor elements.
I want the second model to just be furniture and rooms

Is there an easy way I can move this furniture and rooms into a new linked model?

I cannot think of a built-in function in Revit that will support this. I think, unfortunately, your best bet is going to be to make a copy of the model, link them together, and then start deleting elements.

Making some 3D views with the categories you want to keep turned off in each model will probably speed up selecting what you want to delete.

And make sure your links are set to Room Bounding or those Rooms in the model with no Walls will start breaking.

You can give this a try too....

OPT 1

  • Make a new model using the Arch template.
  • Link in the existing Arch model and acquire coordinates if needed.
  • Open both models in the same session of Revit
    • Select the furniture from the existing model (select all and use the filter tool)
    • from the modify ribbon select Copy to clipboard
    • in the New model, pick Paste Aligned to Same Place
  • go back to the original model and delete the furniture.

OPT 2

  • Make a new model using the Arch template.
  • Link in the existing Arch model and acquire coordinates if needed.
  • tab select the item(s) to copy in the link
  • Select Copy to Clipboard
  • Pick Paste Aligned to Same Place
  • go back to the original model and delete the furniture.
