I created a modeled-in-place component which I assigned to the category "lighting devices". The material I assigned was a self-illuminating one, and it lights up like a dying star. However, it does not cast any light on its surroundings. Why doesn't it, and how can I get it to cast light? It seems useless to have an option to "self-illuminate" where it literally just glows without lighting effects, and then have a SEPARATE option to actually make a light for real this time.
Want Light? Use a Light Source. Self-Illumination is not one.
I understand that, but how do you make a light source that is not one of the predefined standard shapes? If I'm using an embedded strip fry-reglet that rounds 90 degree corners as a band, is there a way to do this easily? I've found that making a family for each and every band is very time consuming (this is just a concept package)
You want something like Rope Lighting?
...additionally, you could do rope lighting using an Adaptive Divided Line with a Light Source "Repeater". That make sense?
..You can find quite a few Revit Families of this type by Googling it.
