Hi,
I have a family which occurs multiple times in a project. I want to isolate one instance of this family, to place on a sheet, by using a filter. I have made a 'appears on sheet' project parameter. For the instance i want to filter out, i set the value of this ' appears on sheet' project parameter to 'sheet 1'.
The filter filters out every family which 'appears on sheet' parameter does not contain 'sheet 1'. So i am left with the one family instance that i want to isolate.
Now, here it comes. The family has some nested families in it. Some bolts, and some steel parts. I want those nested families also to appear on the sheet. To be able to do that, those nested families also have to be fed with the 'sheet 1' parameter value. But, if this has to be done 1 by 1, it can be a lot of work (and easy to make a mistake).
So I was wondering, if there is a way to select a family, and at the same time all nested families of this host family, so I can feed every family inside the selection with the 'sheet 1' value at once.
Note: linking the 'appears on sheet' parameter through the host and nested families is not what I want. The reason for this is that some nested families (like the steel parts) might also have to appear on other sheets. To do that I would have to add 'sheet 2' also to their parameter value. But if the parameters are linked, they are greyed out and inaccessible.
Hope you understand the issue, and can provide some help. Thanks in advance.

Use Visual Style for Visibility :
Coarse, Medium , Fine
Ex : Put Familiy in Mechanical Equipment,
and use detail level to show elements...
Model and give each element, lines, visibility in " Family Element Visibility" Settings..
You can control so many parameters here.. and way much easy than
Creating a new Parameter like you said " appear on sheet " etc..
Hope this will help you..
If you really want to go this route then I would not use a project parameter but a family parameter.
Inside the family you would have to add this parameter to the host and to all the nested families.Inside the host you can link the parameter form the nested families to the one of the host family.
In your project when you change the parameter of the host the automatically the parameter of all the nested families will change too.

Please mention Revit version, especially when uploading Revit files.
