Select Elements By Face toggle doesn't apply if the face has a surface pattern?

I use Revit 2018.  The toggle in the bottom right to turn off/on SELECT ELEMENTS BY FACE seems to apply only if the face has no surface pattern.  When I have this setting off, but the floor face has a pattern (lines of a wood floor) the floor is the selection option even when I hover away from the floor edge.  My only work around has been to turn off the floor's surface pattern while I'm working in particular views.

Any way to turn of SELECTION ELEMENTS BY FACE if they have a surface pattern?

cute cartoon avatar. Now, getting back to business: what gives? Sounds like you have got a viable workaround on one hand...but, on the other hand, it ain't quite adequate enough. In an prefect world; what would be the ideal solution for you?

Ideally I'd like to be able to toggle off SELECT ELEMENTS BY FACE and have that apply to a floor that has a surface pattern on it.  When I hide the surface pattern, the floor is only selectable when I hover near the floor edge (that's my preference), but if the surface pattern of the floor is visible then the floor is selectable even when hovering in the center of it, as if the SELECT ELEMENTS BY FACE setting is toggled on, when it's not.  Tabbing through alternative object selection doesn't help, the patterned floor is so dominant and no other object selections are offered.  Thanks,

I don't think there is anything you can do about this behavior. The pattern itself isn't a "face" so it's still selectable even if "select elements by face" is toggled off.

The only things you can do are:

1. Just turn off floors entirely, or...

2. Turn off surface pattern visibility, or...

3. Assign a much less dense pattern so that it doesn't interfere as much, or...

4. Zoom in a lot to select what you want without interference.

Thanks, I suspected this was the answer but had no way of being sure without a more experienced user confirming it.
