im sure this is simple... but I havent found the answer...
Working on a house that is three levels.. Why, when I create a section while viewing my first floor plan, is that section visible or not visible on other levels, assuming I have my VG set to show sections on all levels.

Does this help...
...if I drag that top grip down below the upper Level, that Section Marker will not be seen in the upper Level.
...it could also be due to View Scale.
yeah that's it... i hadnt thought of that... just something that was bugging me. thank you
One thing leads to another....
So I can now see my siding in section view.. that's what I was after. But I dont want to see the siding in plan view. the siding is attached to the wall as sweeps. There is a place to hide sweeps in VG, but it doesnt seem to speak to the siding... ??? any ideas???
yes i did... much to your chagrin
No "chagrining" happening here, buddy. I don't know what to tell you, other than remove them from the Wall Type and do them the other way. Sorry.
It is only troublesome because I like to pull dimensions from the outside edge of stud at outside walls... i could just pull from center of stud and not be concerned... makes dimensioning easier...
Turn the Walls into Parts. That would do it. You could then hide the Siding.
Switch to Fine to see the core and dimension to face of core. then switch back to Coarse if you don't want to see all the lines, the dims stay.
yeah... I had that thought as well... it works if Im pulling dimensions from the core, and the wall is properly built. There's just too many lines showing with the view set to fine... Cant pull to outside of stud wall if im set to course or medium...
Into parts???? what do you mean... apply the siding as a separate layer to the wall? Now that seems like a lot of work.
No, leave them in the Wall Type. Just select the Wall and hit the Parts button. Try it; you'll see what I mean.
...before you ask; NO, nothing is happening to the original Wall when you do this. Parts is just creating new elements from the original wall that are hosted to the original wall. If you delete or modify or hide the Wall Parts it does not affect the original Wall.
...also note that Parts Visibility is a View Setting. Three visibility conditions are available to choose from.
Love this group..... seriously. You guys are all invited to dinner.
cant find a parts button....
yes... till my next renewal
it's been good, but Im growing out of it...
Arrgh! Parts is not available in LT. Man-o-man, your are going to have so much more fun with full Revit. So much more you can do with it. It'll pay for itself. With the increase in productivity, you'll have more time to "sweep" -- the kind your wife like to see you doing. ![]()
