Sections Appearing on multiple sheets

Anonymous
Not applicable

I am not sure if this is the correct area or if this issue has been resolved before.

I have created Plan views and set them out on sheets, when I create the next view and take a section, the section appears on the first plan, I have 10 sheets with plans and sections and every time i have to go back to the individual sheets and hide the new sections as they are not required.

Is there a way of preventing the sections from appearing on additional views \ locking the view to stop additional detailing from appearing in it?

Many Thanks

Yes.

Set up a View Template which controls Sections visibility (on/off in VG Annotation category)--and apply the view template

to your views.

You can also make various Section Types, then use a Filter to show certain Section Types on certain views, etc.

Hi Cliff,

I am using templates for this already, if I create different types of sections, there will be a lot ( 100's) due to the size of the project,

its mainly having to go back and hide 20 - 30 sections per sheet every time I create a new plan and take sections

I know this isn't really a "solution" and I wish for the functionality you described. In lieu of that, however, I propose the following workflow:

1. Just keep making new sections without worrying about it.

2. When you're finally all done, go into a view, select all the sections, and hide them by element. Turn on the show hidden tool, select only the ones you want, and unhide them by element. Turn off the show hidden tool.

3. Repeat #2 for each view.

This is the approach that I am using at the minute but it is VERY tedious not to mention time consuming due to the number of sheets I need to go back over.

Maybe this functionality will be incorporated into the next release (fingers crossed)

Again, I might only be helping a tiny bit if at all.... Are you aware that various view disciplines do not display the section symbols, callout symbols, etc., of those created in other view disciplines? For example, a view set to the Electrical discipline will not display sections symbols of views that are set to the Architectural discipline. Perahps the appropriate use of the view discipline feature may help reduce the clutter you have to work through?

You probably are already aware of that. Thought I would point it out just in case.

Have at least 2 types of section, section that you want to show in the sheets and sections that you use for views when drafting.

Create a Filter for the view template you are using.

This filter for my view templates selects all filter that are of the type that I use while drafting to get a quick section view.

Next add it to your filters and uncheck visibility.

Likewise if you want none of the sections to be shown in your sheets select section and add no filter rules and it will hide all sections.
