section view range

I once saw a demo of a feature I now can't remember what it is called.  It controls how far a section view will be shown in elevation.  

As I remember, the demonstration showed someone cutting a detail section in plan view.   They then created what looked like a plan region.  Then the somehow referenced the sections to that region.  The result was to keep that section view from displaying in any elevation or section cut outside of the created plan "region " 

Can anyone tell me what this is called and where to find it.  ?

@Anonymous, I'm not familiar with the process that you have mentioned but as an alternative what I do to control the far clip offset of Building sections is to create my sections using Detail first. This creates a very small far clip offset unlike what happens with Building sections. Then just change your detail section to a Building section in the Properties palette.

That sounds like a Scope Box.

Be careful!  I just tinkered with assigning views and sections to scope boxes and it completely changed the limits of the nicely composed sections on sheets and made a mess.  I think you have to think of scope boxes from day one and understand that the sections created will be locked to crop limits per that scope box.  A bit finicky.

I think what you're wanting isn't a Scope Box. I think you just want to set the extents of the Section view.

While in plan view, place a section. Select it. Look in the Properties Palette. Turn on the Crop View parameter. Now you should be able to drag the dashed blue lines to set the extents of the Section.

That works to an extent, Always lots of clean up of what should sections, detail views etc should or shouldn't  show.

... or a building with a sloping room makes you need to show the entire depth to the far wall.

Thank you for your post.  In this case, it looks like it could be scope boxes as referenced, or the setup of the view as mentioned as well.  One third component is the potential presence for a custom tool or add-in.  Do you recall if this was a demo from a reseller or partner for Autodesk?  If so, there could be a custom tool for view creation that helps combine functionality and streamline the setup.  I am not familiar with one specifically, but if you could find the name of the presenter, or the company that provided the demo, this may help seek out what this potentially was specifically.  Thank you and we look forward to your reply.
