section view; cant change view template and can't rotate

Edit: Reboot PC solved this.

I had this problem before and just deleted the section view and created a new one. but as it happens again, I really want to resolve this.

This view can't be rotated and the view template can't be changed (but i can manually edit VG as if no template was applied).

this is a working view creating an existing model, so it is "old" and i move it around a lot and also rotate by 90° as needed. I still can flip it (180°), though

if I create anew view the same way, it all works. Almost like the section view "wears out" and only can do so many changes....

Maybe it is a bug... but is that happening to someone else? Is there some setting I inadvertently changed to "lock" the orientation and template of the section view?

Haven't experienced this. Does it happen in a particular project or all projects?

It happens on some projects, so the template is the common item.

But I only notice the issue for a view I use to build the existing model since I move that section view around and rotate a lot while I build the model. Most my work is existing buildings, so building the existing model is a large portion of my work before the actual design.

I haven't noticed it on views I use for actual design, but those usually get placed and not moved a lot.

So for the purpose of building the model, I can just delete and create a new view. Or I keep 2 section views (90° to each other). Maybe a bug? Not the biggest deal if it doesn't get worse, just something that naggs me when it happens and wanted to see if there is a solution or explanation.

Might be disjoin, make sure it is not activated. Use the rotate command on some other element and uncheck disjoin. Afterward it should work when the section is selected.

the disjoin only appears when I use "move". but checking/unchecking doesn't make a difference for rotating.

but now also the other section (I created in 90° to the one that caused this thread) can't rotate anymore or change the view template. It is like you only have 48 hours to make adjustments to a section view.....

Edit: I restarted my PC and now the section views can rotate and change template again. Looks like there is a Revit issue if it is open for a few days.

Note to self...ask how long Revit session has been running :leicht_lächelndes_Gesicht:

I've seen some other weird stuff with long running sessions, I should have thought of that. Most recently was text overlapping itself in a weird way. A user was working on a remote computer that had not been restarted in weeks and Revit was left running "to keep a license".

I know, daily re-boots are are good idea for many reasons.

But a reboot on our slow PCs takes a long time and opening all my applications plus re-opening Revit projects takes a long time. So we get a bit complacent here :leicht_lächelndes_Gesicht:

And I'm remoted in. In the past my PC had issues restarting without someone in the office pushing a key. I had to call someone in the office for them to do that. That obviously isn't great for all parties involved and doesn't work during off-hours. I got that PC replaced under warranty because Dell couldn't fix it and it works on the new PC. But I still have that hesitancy to reboot without a reason when I'm not physically in the office.

I can relate to all of that. I remote in for a client routinely. I always "restart" the PC when I wrap up for the day. Other people use it when I'm not "around" so it is on all the time but at least I know that it was restarted once since I last used it. The folks have the PC's dialed in pretty well though so it is very rare to have to find someone to turn it on or restart it.

The IT Crowd wisdom "Have you tried turning it off and on again" wins the day still :leicht_lächelndes_Gesicht:

When we started remote work, our IT disabled the " restart" button when remoted in. At some point I found out you can go into the CMD and enter "shutdown -r"

That is how I found out my old PC had a fault and didn't actually start again but was hung in BIOS waiting for a key entry. Dell and IT originally claimed this isn't a warranty issue since I can just go into the office and push a key and then go back home to remote in.... At some point they gave in realizing how ridiculous that solution is. but that is why I'm still a bit hesitant restarting remotely. Remote-Restart-PTSD :leicht_lächelndes_Gesicht:
