Section through linked DWG

Hi

I am a landscape architect and just started working in Revit.

I have come across a problem that more experiensed users haven`t been able to awnser, so I will try in this forum.

I have a linked 3D DWG file og a road and need to adjust the landscape to this.

1. I cannot add spot elevations to the linked in dwg - is there a way to convert it into a floor/terrain  in an easier way than pick lines (since there always are so many) or something that works in REVIT.

2. When I make a section,  the whole DWG is shown in profile, absolutely impossible to work with or read anything from.

3. I have tried to convert to a family and add to the project, but this isnt optimal since it doesn't come in the right location, is there another way to solve this?

What is the easiest way to work with roadmodels i DWG?

Thanks in advance

Create an in place site family or in place generic model family and link the DWG in it.

This might be a bit simplified, but…..

  • Make a blank Revit Model
  • Link the Civil file into it
  • Move your Project Base Point and Survey Points accordingly to your building location.
    • You can use the Massing and Site tools to make a surface of the linked Conture lines.
      • This will only get you a general surface. It likely not have all the alignments and detail the Civil file may have.
  • Acquire Coordinates from the civil file
  • Save and close the file

  • Link the Civil Revit model into your landscape model
    • Use Project Base point to Project Base Point
  • Acquire coordinates from the Civil model Link.
  • You should now have the Civil file linkd
    • If you chose to make a surface, you should be able to cut a section and see the contures.
    • You WILL NOT be able to edit the Civil DWG thru Revit, but you can edit the surface in the Civil Model Link.

  • If the coordinates are acquired in both models, they should align

you may also want to check out Site Designer for Revit
