I can't make sections as sections lines are not visible despite of the fact that my section box in "properties" is checked.

Look at your visibility/graphics overrides. Check if the "Section Boxes" on the annotation tab is selected

There's is no correlation between Sections, Sections Lines and Section Boxes. You are talking 3 different things.  A Section is a View. The Section View is created using the Section Tool to draw the Cut Plane (places a line and, typically a Marker Head). And a Section Box is a 3D View element.     

....I'll add that you can still create a Section View without this Category being turned on.  However, when you do, Revit will let you know that the Section Cut Line (and Marker Head) you have just drawn in the view is not visible in the view.  But the View will be created in the Project Browser anyways.

the section box is hidden, and you need to show it by clicking on the glasses icon at the bottom to show hidden elements
