Hello everyone! So i received this revit file to create a schedule of materials (a takeoff)... the project is a little cabin and the walls and roof are wood framing structure. But this framings were created in a family and imported into the project .rvt
And every single piece of the framings is an extrusion, the roof and each wall are grouped and inside are the extrusions of each element. So basically when i create the schedule it recognize the framing as one element as you can see at the image:
And i need to get a schedule list of all the elements of the framings with their measurements. Is there a way around to this situation?? i don't want to do this manually... there are more than 10 cabins like this one....
What can i do??? thank you for your time!!
I would nest a wood framing family in to replace the extrusion. Shouldn't take too long.
basicly make the framing again... the problem this one is not the only one... i'll have to do all the cabins framings again...
I am not seeing any easier ways to do it.
I was thinking about assigning an unique material to identical members and use it to group them in the schedule, then add a formula to calculate the length based on volume, profile area, and quantity. It may work if you only have a few variations, not worth it if you have too many.
Whoever provided this model to you for takeoff purposes should be sent a letter.
The letter should explain that the model should be reworked such that each individual framing member is a family, and that if they are to be nested in multiples into other families, they shall be SHARED in those host families.
The letter should further explain the legal and moral failings of having done things they way they did, and detail the harsh consequences/punishments our society has established for such transgressions.
Finally the letter should demand high compensation for having had to deal with this emotionally draining situation.
Send the letter Certified Mail, Receipt Requested, and forward a copy of the letter along with the receipt to a good lawyer.
Otherwise you need to start doing an old-school pencil-and-paper type takeoff.
just a thought:
You could add Mark to each extrusion, then create schedule based on Mark (not type mark), add volume, calculated formula for tonnage that would be based on volume and material unit mass
ah I missed that detail that it is within a family .. so yeah, it seems like there are just two options: total volume/tonnage or the letter as suggested lol
The RIGHT solution is to have each framing member that you want to schedule be a family instance itself. And, if you for some reason do want to nest them all into other families that represent larger collections of them, like whole walls or whatever, then at least make sure the individual members are shared. That way they can all be scheduled correctly without some kind of work-around.
Hi @Anonymous
I just wanted to follow up here, any progress on this issue? Keep us posted
Please mark any posts that help with "Accept as Solution" and thanks!
