Scheduling a Shared Parameter which has a formula

This family has a formula to the Shared Parameter to ensure the sizing adjusts according to requirements.

Once the family is nested, there is no option to include the parameter as part of the family that it is nested in.

As such, it is not possible to obtain this information in a schedule once the family is inserted into the project.

I have tried Sharing the family, but this does not resolve the issue.

Any suggestions??

Either change Casing Height and Casing Width to shared parameters in the family, or add them directly in the project schedule as Calculated value parameters using the same formulas.

Attaching the family to the post usually helps in giving you the best options out of it

As I mentioned in my initial post, the parameters in question are already Shared Parameters.

My assumption is that due to the formula type for those parameters, having them available as an option for use in a schedule as part of the Parent family, is not available.

Ideally, what I would like is for all Shared Parameters of this parent family, to be scheduled as one item. The speaker itself can be excluded.

If the casing is a Shared family, it is included on the schedule, but as a separate item to the Parent family, understandably.

I have attached the Parent family in question

If you want them in the schedule under the parent family, then

  1. remove the formula from the nested components >>
  2. associate the parameters to shared ones in the Parent family
  3. and input/use the formulas therein (the parent family)

Alternatively

  1. Disregard the parameters of the casing
    • Parameters in the nested family do not need to be shared if the nested family itself is not shared
  2. Instead, add shared Parameters (Instance/Reporting) in the parent/host family
  3. Place the dimensions for the casing and label with the above reporting parameters

The idea of having nested component is to reduce complexity and not complicate it. ie: the casing is not a shared family, then it should be a simple box with Height/Width/Depth/Material which you associate to the parent family and all the formulas and mumbo jumbo happens in the parent and not in the child.

As I need to supply the casing as its own family, I have to maintain the parameters within that family for individual use.

However, by altering the parameters used in the formulas to be shared and including them in the parents family, I am then able, as you said, to include them for scheduling.

The short answer for my question I then determine is that no, if the parameter has a formula in the nested family, it can't be directly used in the parent family for scheduling purposes unless

1) the process above is done

2) it is a visibility parameter with a formula - which works fine
