Schedules: multiple rows from one family?

I've created a family that contains multiple nested families. Right now, scheduling this family gives me a single row with many columns. Is there a way to break down these columns into 2+ rows so that I can organize my information better?

Example: Stair with handrail family. I have a family that contains a step family, handrail family, and a channel family (sides of the stair). I'd like to have 3 rows, one for each family. Outside of Revit, the typical columns would be: Item, QTY, length (just to simplify), but now I find myself using "Step length", "HR Length", and "Channel Length". Can I not just have one column for "Length" and 3 rows for each family/part?

If you have 3 nested and shared families inside a host family then you can have 3 rows.

But a column only presents one parameter or one combination of parameters.  So you cannot have one column showing Length in one row and Step_Length in the next.  If you want to do that, you need to use the same parameter Length for all the nested families.

Would you mind taking the time to explain on how to do this?

I can create two simple blocks as their own family with the shared parameter: "Length"

I want to take those two blocks and load them both inside a third family.

The third family can only have one "Length" shared parameter, therefore forcing me to have "Length" and "Length 2".

I take that third family into a project and the schedule will have one column with "Length" and another with "Length 2" from the third family.

Am I missing something?

If "Length" of Block 1 and "Length" of Block 2 are intended to be the same then you can associated both with "Length" in Block 3.  If they are to be different then yes you need another "Length 2".  So, which of the above applies to yours?

The two need to be different lengths.

I hope you don't get too far into typing, but I found something.

There's a "shared" box that I can toggle that does something to the rows.

Edit: I can't believe I didn't know about something so simple. That's what you get for learning on the fly I guess. Thanks for your help, and sorry for the potential waste of time this caused.

That is precisely what I show in the example above 😉
