Save as Cloud Model

Just noticed that I have this alternative on Revit 2022, when right clicking the File Tab and choosing Save As.  I had assumed that this would then mean that I could save it straight to my Autodesk Drive but got a Dialog saying that I needed access to Docs!  Followed this up and found that Docs is part of my "Architecture, Engineering & Construction Collection", though it does not appear in the 'Desktop App'. So I used the 'Access my complete list of products and services' at the foot of the Desktop App dialog and sure enough it is in the list that appears on the account which opened on the internet. So having found Docs in the list of applications I clicked on "Access Now" which led me to a page saying my name, followed by a number and in orange letters, "NOT ACTIVATED" and so I clicked the "Activate," only to be taken to another dialog asking if I wanted to convert my existing trial to my subscription or create a new account.  Choosing either of these alternatives is too painful to describe.

I thought that by clicking "Save as Cloud Model" would be a quick way of saving my project to Autodesk Drive so now I wish I had not noticed it.  Can any body explain in English if it will do this by some easy to understand process?

Save as Cloud model is a method to save a Revit project (.rvt file) to a BIM 360 project, so that the .rvt file can be opened and linked by you and other members of a collaborative project. Before this "Save as Cloud" option was introduced, all models needed to be first enabled with worksets and initiated in BIM360, to be a model that other team members could open and link in a collaborative project. Save as Cloud Model allows a Revit model without worksets to be part of a collaborative project.

Notice the difference between these two files in a BIM360 project: for the file highlighted in yellow I used "Save as Cloud Model" from a file that does not have worksets. Now that model can be opened and linked by other team members of a BIM360 project, even though is a file without worksets.

When a Revit file is simply "uploaded" to BIM 360 is only available for download from the website. It's not even visible for Open or Link when you are in a BIM360 project.

There are 2 levels of usage for BIM360, one is as a simple file exchange website (BIM 360 Docs), which is free if you are invited to a BIM360 project, or if you have the collection. That level is only for uploading and downloading files, similar to using Dropbox or similar sites. The other level is BIM 360 Design, now called BIM Collaborate Pro, which is not free (it's about $115 a month, or less if you pay it annually), and this is the level that allows you to open Revit models from Revit and save your models to the cloud, and collaborate with consultants, etc.

First, you need to have a project in your BIM360 account, or you need to have been invited to a BIM360 project. What do you see after signing in to this link : https://docs.b360.autodesk.com/session   ?

Save as a cloud model does what you are looking for. It basically pops up a window which allows you to select the Account and the Cloud Project you want to save to... I would assume if neither the account nor the project has been set up, that button would not function as you are expecting it to...

  • Did you try to log-in to the cloud using https://docs.b360.autodesk.com/session
  • If yes and you are Account Admin, did you set up a project?
  • Did you activate the services you need (in this case Document Management)?
  • at one point you would need to complete the setup and create a directory structure, add members, set permissions...etc?

NOTE: If you are not familiar with Autodesk Docs workflow, I would suggest that you watch the following some tutorials. the following is one consisting of 10x5mins sessions which walk you through more or less most of the features...
