I have assigned the same material to curtain wall mullion and a generic model of a frame, but they show in different colors. The frame is added on and not a part of the curtain wall. What could be the reason? Thanks.

I would edit the door frame family. Select the object and check if it is tie to the material parameter.
Is the material parameter actually assigned to the generic model elements?

It is has only one element.
I added a material parameter in the generic model family and it is set "By Category" by default. I only assigned the material in the project. Do I have to assign it in the family as well?
I don't have the material in the family but only in project, not sure how to bring it into the family.
When I edit family, I don't see the material parameter there; only see it when I edit type. Is it I didn't set up the material parameter correct?
Okay, yes, looks like have to directly assign material in the family to make it show up. Thank you both!
I found the below thread 's solution useful to bring a material from one project to a family.

That works but when you need to change the material, you will need to edit the family again. A better way is assign the element in the family with a material parameter so that you can change it to any material in the project without opening the family.
i dont know why my girders are different in color, even though they are both created using the same family. can anyone help me to understand what causes this, thank you. kindly see picture below:
