RPC Tree family with an issue of a dimension parameter - maybe a bug?

Hello everyone,

I have a very odd issue with the RPC tree family that's provided by revit. I wanted to improve the look in a floor plan and be able to adjust the radius of the tree symbol. The symbol itself is a nested family, I just added a dimension parameter as a radius to the circle. I loaded it back into the host family and added the parameter as well and hooked it up to the nested family parameter (like usualy).
When I load the family into a project it's not working properly. The radius is larger than the actual specified dimension. The nested symbol family itself is working correctly when loaded into the project. I don't get it, what could be the issue here?

Both families are set to 2m radius in the project.

I suspected the units setting of the family could be the problem but the host family is already in millimeters, the nested symbol was in feet but changing it to millimeters did nothing.
Any thoughts on this or is it a bug?

Thanks in advance for the help.
Kind regards.

Share the family?

Rob

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

Sure thing. When I load it into my metric project, the parameter "radius" is not working. The actual radius is always larger than what I set it to.

You're fighting against the built-in intelligence of the Family. Planting Families scale. Recategorize the Family or use the built-in Height Parameter.

Here's a video that talks about the "intelligence" I'm referring to:

Recategorized as Generic Model Family:

Is it how you want it to work?  Unless you want to show the 2d symbol in 3D, I would create the nested family as a Detail family instead of another Planting family.

Share the Nested Family.

Thanks that's the knowledge I was missing. Didn't know planting families behave differently. I guess the best way is to make the symbol a nested Detail family like @ToanDN suggested.

The nested family is in the family I uploaded.

The screenshot I show are still with the nested family as planting category and it works fine.  The reason I suggest to use a detail family is that the 2d tree linework is usually not to be shown in 3d.

Unfortunately I only have the 2022 so I did not share the revised family as you are still using 2021.

The planting family only works because you just used the nested family in the project but I want to keep the 3D part of the original familiy. The host family and the nested one were both originaly planting families.
Like you said I don't need the 2D symbol in a 3D view so it's working out with a nested detail family. I already tried and it works as intended.
Again thanks for the help! :leicht_lächelndes_Gesicht:
