Rotating a face based family in 3D view around a pivot point

Hi all,

I have a face based Family that I want to be able to rotate around a pivot point in a 3D view. In effect, I want to be able to click and drag the Family so it will rotate on a horizontal plane instead of having to type in a value for the angle parameter. I've tried hosting the object to flat surfaces and spheres and locking certain reference lines but instead of Family being locked into position I just get a warning saying the constrait will be broken when I try to drag it. The rotation and constraints work fine when I use the angle parameters but it would be al lot easier if I could drag it freely in the 3D view. I'm not sure what I'm asking is even possible in Revit but maybe someone has done something similar.

Use Rotate tool to rotate.

I want to see what you are doing. Post the Family - or better; the Project in which the Family is placed.

I am aware of the rotate tool. I don't think I explained myself clearly. I want the Revit user to be able to rotate an arm object in a 3D view by clicking on the end of it and draging to rotate it around a fixed pivot point at the other end. I know you can use the rotate tool, that is obvious. I know you can use angle parameters, which we have, that is also obvious. I honestly think Revit is not capable of doing what we need, it seems to more of a Solidworks thing or maybe Inventor where objects have locked origin points . I'll post a family when I get time.

I think due to constraints your not able to rotate the face based family try this and see if it works.
Open 3D view and You can do set work plane to the host of the face based family than go to rotate on the optional panel remove the tick mark on constrain select only disjoin.
this will allow you to move and rotate.

That's ok, I wanted to rotate the arm without having to use the rotate tool. Rotate will only work if the objects are not locked to reference lines anyway. I want something similar to when an object is hosted to something with a curved surface (i.e. a sphere) it can move in any work plane when you click and drag it. I want the object to be locked on the horizontal work plane, but this is not possible. It's nothing critical but it would have been a "nice to have" feature. Adaptive component familes might be able to do this but then it's not worth our time to create all new content.
