ROOM vs. AREA

Hello everyone

I would really appreciate your help here.

What is the difference between ROOM element and AREA element in Revit? Which one is used in practice to extract area data to spread sheet?

Also, here I have particular difficulty using the AREA tool in a group

Why, when I try to place area, I get notification that the area is not properly defined but, at the same time, some of the tools in the Room and Area tab, mainly the Area Boundary, are grayed out?

To create an Area First you have to create  an Area plan by selecting that

Choose an Appropiate Level to create Area plan

Now you can Draw Area Boundaries and Provide Areas

Depends what you want to achieve. If you want customized area where your boundary extend to exterior of the wall and have interior in the middle of the wall, then you have to use area. Sadly area will not show up in section. As well area only can be added if you create area plan and not floor plan.

I don't recommend you group area and area boundaries. The area boundaries will always remove itself from the group whenever you modify the line.
