Hi everyone
When selecting a room in a Revit model, there are four instance parameters under Identity Data section in Properties Palette which are:
Base Finish
Ceiling Finish
Wall Finish
Floor Finish
So, I have 4 questions
Those parameters are just plain text parameters, no link with actual geometry.
It can be used as a simpel info about finishes without the need to actual model them.
We mostly use them (and other parameters) for the global finishes (those that are used for the most part in the room), and specific finishes (part of wall or floor etc is actually modelled.) Easy to do in early stage of project. In combination with a Room ColorFill legend is very clear where the material are applied (globally)
The base finish is actually the base of the wall (or better where the floor and wall meet, like a plinth)
Tip: use them in combination with KeySchedules, so the values are equal. kind of type for rooms.
If you want to associate actual materials to rooms then look into roombook extension.
Hi @RC_RVT
Thank you for sharing your info
I understand that wall finish is just used for PAINTING a room to call Paint-1 for room 1 and Paint-2 for room 2 and else I still not understand the reason to include these parameters especally that we can include all these parameters in walls and ceiling and floor layers to be able to find their quantities by Material Takeoff tool
Today, I read the following info from Residential Design Using Autodesk Revit 2021 eBook by Daniel John Stine (Page 13-14)
Hopefully, in the near future. Revit will be able to enter the finishes based on the wall’s Materia! settings, as well as floor and ceiling types previously created in the project!
So I hope for Revit users who use last versions of Revit if there is any changes about my concerns
I use Revit 2025, and there is no change to the Room Schedule, if this is what you are asking. If your query has been resolved, can you accept the solution please.
