Hi
We measure the Room areas using the center line of the wall and our walls are split with gaps to accommodate the structural columns which are in the linked file. So when the columns are check ON for Room Bounding the areas reported would be incorrect. See image. If the columns are Check OFF for Room bounding the room is not in an enclosed area.
We can't have the walls without the gaps (intersecting the columns) as it will trouble us during the clash detection with the structural model.
Is there an quick solution to this issue? Or any ideas if dynamo can help in automatically sketching room separation lines? at the column location.( I can then have the columns unchecked for room bounding.)
I can do another type of wall which can be hidden in all views using a filter or something but that's a lot of work considering the scale of projects we deal with. I can even sketch room separation lines manually but I am looking for a quick and smart solution. Thanks all.
maybe make a group with the columns and room bounding lines? replace all?
Click the column(s), disable room bounding for that element(s).
Draw a room boundary to fill the gap
That is probably will be the fastest solution. Creating a script will be even more complicated task.
Thanks for replying
I don't have any room separation lines sketched in the model. Doing that manually in the place of hundreds of columns is what i want to avoid. Also the columns are in the structural model.
Thanks for your reply..
I am sure . Just trying to know if anyone has found any better solutions.
I suggest the following:
1. Do NOT gap your walls around the columns.
2. Copy Monitor the columns.
3. Unload the linked columns, leaving your copied/monitored ones only.
4. Join those to the walls.
5. Turn off their room bounding property.
Now:
1. You'll get the right room area.
2. They won't trigger a clash/interference.
Besides:
I don't know what you mean by them causing you problems during clash detection. Aren't you capable of turning off detection between columns and walls? Or at least, just ignoring clashed detected between columns and walls, which you know will be the linked in columns anyway? How exactly would they cause problems?
