Room area measurements at wall

Room area measurements at wall

I know you can set how you want to measure room area at walls globally i.e. centerline of wall, wall finish etc.

I need to be able to set different walls to override the global setting. I need to measure the room areas at the wall centerline at interior walls and to the interior finish at exterior walls. This makes a simple task tedious and complicated.

Does anyone know if there is any way or if there is an app allowing an override for room measurement per wall.

I am sure many have struggled with this and a solution would be huge.

Thank you.

Thank you for the question @Anonymous!

The only current option I’m seeing to change the wall calculation point is the global one (Change the Room Area Boundary Location). You could submit your idea for a wall level override option here: Revit Ideas

If you need the interior walls to be calculated at the centerline, and the exterior walls at the interior finish, have you considered setting the global value to centerlines, then override for the exterior walls using Room Separation lines (placed at the interior finish of the exterior walls)?

(If for some reason you needed to reverse these settings, you could still do this with room separation lines by turning off the room bounding parameter of the exterior walls, and then place your room separation lines at the centerline of the exterior walls.)

If doing this manually would take an unreasonable amount of time, another option would be to look into Dynamo, or using the API (with a macro/add-in) to automatically place/update the room separation lines for you.

You can set the specific wall to non-bounding and draw a room seperation line where you want it.
